All about the Various Kinds of Bed Linen

You may have noticed the bedding section of your department store- there is a reason why it is so large. It is because of the dozens of types of sheets, pillows and other kinds of bed linen. Often one may be confused by the wide array of choice.
Here is a list of the top types of bedroom linen in the market:
Top Sheet
This is common in North America and is also called a flat sheet. It is a sheet, which separates you from quilt, blanket or comforter. In some places, the top sheet is substituted by duvet cover.
Bottom Sheet
Also called as fitted sheet, it is a sheet which features an elastic edge that fits over your mattress- thus the name. Since mattresses of today have become much thicker, it is vital to ascertain the measurements before purchasing a fitted sheet to ensure that it stretches completely over your mattress.
Coverlet
It is a decorative fabric covering which does not touch the floor and typically does not cover the pillows. This category includes quilts and woven coverlets.
Bedspread
It is a most common item of bed linen Melbourne. It resembles a coverlet- a thin, decorative covering- which totally covers the bed and touches the floor. Common materials include polyester, wool, chenille and cotton.
Blanket

It protects a duvet in form of a cover. It resembles an envelope and has an opening where the duvet or comforter is inserted. After placing this inside, the opening is closed with buttons or sometimes, a zipper. Most duvet covers are usually very decorative and come in varieties.
Continental Pillow
It is a big, square pillow and is decorative. It sits back against the headboard. It is possible to remove cover for washing.
Sleeping Pillow
It is the common, rectangular pillow you rest your head on, while sleeping. It comes in 3 sizes- king, queen, standard which suit your sleeping habits and bed.
Decorative Pillow
It is also called as a throw or accent pillow. It is a decorative, small pillow which comes in various colours, sizes and shapes.
Bolster Pillow
It is a tubular pillow used for lumbar support. This is useful while you sit up in bed to read. It is mostly used also for decorative purposes. They range from small to wide enough to span the breadth of the bed.
Pillow Case
It is used to cover a sleeping pillow and in some cases, for decorative and bolster pillows. Typically rectangular shaped, it has an opening on one end where the pillow is inserted.
